THE MISSION

The Animal Protection and Education Charity is striving to make ALL Iowa Shelters no-kill by the year 2020!

What is a no-kill shelter?  A no-kill shelter does not perform euthanasia on animals solely to make room for others.  Yes, they may have to humanely put down animals for severe behavioral problems or untreatable medical conditions.  However, they do not destroy animals solely because their "time is up" or to make room for others in the shelter.

A.P.E. hopes to  accomplish “No-kill Iowa 2020” by networking with veterinarians and shelters throughout Iowa to provide affordable, spay-and-neuter services.

MISSION GOALS:

1.  Team up shelters with area veterinarians to provide low-cost, spay-and-neuter services in more areas.

2.  Purchase a mobile, spay-and-neuter unit to provide services in more areas.  The cost of this type a of vehicle is at or over $100,000.  Some of the funds from the Iowa “Spay and Neuter” License Plate will go to maintain the vehicle and its equipment.

3.  Build public awareness of the benefits of spay-and-neuter surgeries and of the need for these surgeries to combat the overwhelming statistics of homeless animals.

4.  Offer spay-and-neuter vouchers for owners in areas where the mobile services are not yet available.
