The Animal Protection & Education Charity |
|
The mission of the Animal Protection and Education Charity (A.P.E.) is to help place unwanted animals, accidental litters, and adoptable animals, whose time has run out in local animal facilities, into loving, forever homes.
We also assist humane organizations in central Iowa with trap-neuter-return (TNR) and spay-and-neuter projects, as well as educate the public on humane training and proper nutrition for their pet. Our goal is to see Iowa become a No-kill State by 2020. With our focus on spaying and neutering of all mixed-breed pets, we believe this goal can be attained. |

Be Part of Central Iowa’s Pet Adopt-a-Thon!
Last year the Animal Protection and Education Charity held an adoption event here in Central Iowa. It literally rained buckets the morning of the event. Despite the horrible weather that morning, folks came out in record numbers to look at the adoptable animals at our shelter and the adoptable animals of our affiliated shelters. We were very happy with the outcome and have to extended this invitation to all Central Iowa shelters/pounds and breed rescue groups.
Please join us in Jefferson , Iowa at Daubendeik Park on Sunday May, 4th (rain or shine). From 12 Noon to 3 Pm for the all shelter Central Iowa Adopt-a-Thon.

In 1995, Pet Adoptathon began simply as a North Shore Animal League America, (Port Washington, NY) adoption weekend, with the goal of finding homes for each dog and cat in the shelter. The first weekend in May was set aside and plans were made to stay open 36 hours straight.
It became apparent that the overwhelming success had to be shared. Soon the North Shore Animal League America extended invitations to shelters everywhere to participate in Pet Adoptathon '96. That year, over 700 animal organizations joined together; the result was thousands more loving adoptions. And every year since, Pet Adoptathon has continued to grow. Last year, over 1,500 organizations participated all across the United States and around the globe. Twelve years later, Pet Adoptathon has fostered over 250,000 loving adoption worldwide. |
